The Black Keys – Lonely Boy Song (Words) Meanings and Review

“Well I’m so above you
And it’s fine to see”

Have you ever met someone who just might be the complete opposite of you, and yet you you felt so passionate about that person that you fell in love? Maybe your’re from totally different backgrounds, different educations, different ages and whole host of other types of “different”, yet ..your drawn to each other and it just can’t be helped. To me, that’s exactly what these opening lines tell me.

“But I came to love you anyway”

No matter what the circumstances or the differences between the two…..he fell in love.

“So you tore my heart out
And I don’t mind bleeding”

And like with many loves. It can be painful to your heart. Am I right? Of course I am! And you can get your heart ripped out….but it doesn’t matter! You still keep loving. Sure, it doesn’t make any sense at times, but that’s what many of us do.

“Any old time to keep me waiting
Waiting, waiting”

Just like the words tell you, she makes him wait, maybe she takes advantage of the fact that he loves her. Ever have that kind of relationship? I’m betting a lot of you probably have at one time or another.

“Chorus:
Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting
Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting
I’m a lonely boy
I’m a lonely boy
Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting”

The chorus just slaps you in the face and tells you that his love doesn’t seem to mind keeping him waiting. Waiting for what we really don’t know, and I guess that is left up to your own imagination. But what is clear, it makes him one very lonely boy.

“Well your mama kept you but your daddy left you”

Once again, he let’s us know that they are very different. She’s from a broken home. Maybe her life has been totally different than his.

“And I should’ve done you just the same
But I came to love you”

Maybe he has a tiny bit of regret, maybe he should’ve never fallen in love. But he did. It was like something that just couldn’t be avoided.

“Any old time you keep me waiting
Waiting, waiting

Chorus:
Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting
Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting
I’m a lonely boy
I’m a lonely boy
Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting

Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting

Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting
I’m a lonely boy
I’m a lonely boy
Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting”

Unlike many of the love songs that we listen to that are slow, drawn out and quite frankly incredibly boring, Lonely Boy just makes you want to get out of your chair and dance! So what if you have a love that keeps you waiting! Might as well have some fun and enjoy life until she makes you wait no longer. Right?
