Miike Snow – Paddling Out Lyrics
the west, the warm, the sunny south
i see it’s full of ancients
for call the space between the crave
that sound of road to me too
[chorus]
there’s someone here who laughs too hard at everything
there’s someone here who laughs too hard at everything
you say isn’t it hard?
paddling out, paddling out
you say isn’t it hard?
paddling out, paddling out
for out to london, maintain crowd around here for the weekend
we hide to take us close before
the sun is gone completely
i used to lie thinking clouds aside here and which was dust
i lie as i throw myself out in the shower cold and thin
[chorus]
there’s someone here who laughs too hard at everything
there’s someone here who laughs too hard at everything
you say isn’t it hard?
paddling out, paddling out
you say isn’t it hard?
paddling out, paddling out
you say isn’t it hard?
paddling out, paddling out
you say isn’t it hard?
paddling out, paddling out

Also: it would be helpful to find out what the word “for” might actually mean in these lyrics. Just as the album’s title, “Happy to You” suggests to me a cold, swedish, bad-english way of expressing joy in sharing another’s company (maybe the use of “to” doesn’t imply the cold pretext I jump to it feeling like), perhaps “for” can take on a certain aesthetic or meaning that is hidden to proper american english speaking folk such as myself…
However, the odd use of “for” doesn’t give me any feeling the way their use of “to” does in the album title.
This is a song about alcoholism/escapism and how a person becomes part of another “world” other than plain, cooperative society.
Whether they’re: exploring unknown realms that are too massive for the human psyche and body to handle (hallucinations, past memories, physical ailments and chemical alteration) and ignoring all conventional wisdom to form their own opinions; experiencing a naturally altered state of mind that has caused them to live life in a “less real” manner (think giving into psychosis, living with autistic tendencies like OCD, anxiety, ADD or drowning in emotions/what some might feel is intuition or the brain working in overdrive)- all forms deal with avoiding the real world and/or discovering new fronteirs (sometimes genious, entertaining or scary).
In the video one such person who has paddled out finds that his altered state leaves him feeling dillusional and much more alive… only to come crashing and burning back down to earth with the rest of his friends who have dissolved themselves in a search for something :: more.
