Song On Lyrics Musical Week In Review – March 12-18 2012 – Important New Albums

Although we didn’t have a great deal of album releases in the past week, I’m sure you are going to see some very interesting names that released new material in the week of March 12th 2012. One of the first names that should kind of catch your eye is the album from VCMG that is titled with unusual name “SSSS.” This is the long awaited release from former Depeche Mode members Vince Clarke and Martin Gore. From some of the early reviews, it looks like the duo has once again gone back to their roots and have given us a album that is filled with heart thumping techno bangers that are sure to get your feet inspired. In other words, get ready to dance when you cue up “SSSS.”

Now if you want to take a bit of a break from the Berlin inspired techno, on the other end of the spectrum you have the soulful lass from Ireland, Wallis Bird, who released her third album with her namesake attached. Although she has yet to become a houselhold name to many, this powerful yet soulful artist might finally find the commercial success that she has been lacking so far in her career. The 11 track album “Wallis Bird,” in the words of Andrew Lockwoood, who does reviews for ContactMusic.com, wrote that “The diversity is both staggering and wonderful.” Maybe this deserves a listen.

Another artist who has put his name to an album is Marcus Collins. The 2011 X Factor runnerup has released his debut album titled “Marcus Collins” and has even taken to the QVC shopping network to promote it! If you like a little retro sounding rhythm & blues then you might want to take a peak at this one.

If you follow along in the country music genre, one of the names that should catch your eye is that of Shooter Jennings and his new album titled “Family Man.” Of course you know that this is country music legend Waylon Jennings son and the album is his second. Why he was named Shooter is beyond me, but his new album follows on the heels of his 2010 release that was titled “Black Ribbons.”

Ok, all those that want a fresh serving of Death Metal hold onto your sarcophagus because Cannibal Corpse has released their 12th studio album titled “Torture.” With their new offering you’ll get to listen to “Followed Home Then Killed,” “As Deep As the Knife Will Go” and of course “The Strangulation Chair.” For those of you that are 14 and older, if you really want to drive your parents just a little bit of the edge, this is the album that just might do it.

See, I told you there might be something for everyone in this batch!

For those of you that might be searching for artists and their debut albums, other than those who’ve named their albums after themselves, take a look at Michael Kiwanuka and his brand new album “Home Again.” Kiwanuka was the winner of the BBC Sound Of 2012 and from early indications, this crooner has already started to capture the ears of fans and critics alike.

So take your time going over the list from March 12th 2012 and check out some of the new arrivals. If you think we’ve missed something, just leave us a comment below. We would dearly appreciate it!
