Leonard Cohen - Show Me The Place Lyrics

Leonard Cohen has released his first new song since 2004, and that's definitely reason for joy. The track is titled "Show Me the Place" and it's the lead single off his upcoming new album “Old Ideas” which is set for release on January 31st, 2012. Over the sound of a lonely piano and a bittersweet violin, Cohen, who is now 77 years old, asks in his clasic grave vocal tone, to be shown "the place where you want your slave to go."

Leonard Cohen – Show Me The Place Lyrics

Show me the place, where you want your slave to go
Show me the place, I’ve forgotten I don’t know
Show me the place where my head is bending low
Show me the place, where you want your slave to go

Show me the place, help me roll away the stone
Show me the place, I can’t move this thing alone
Show me the place where the word became a man
Show me the place where the suffering began

The troubles came I saved what I could save
A shred of light, a particle a wave
But there were chains so I hastened to behave
There were chains so I loved you like a slave

Show me the place, where you want your slave to go
Show me the place, I’ve forgotten I don’t know
Show me the place, where my head is bending low
Show me the place, where you want your slave to go

The troubles came I saved what I could save
A shred of light, a particle a wave
But there were chains so I hastened to behave
There were chains so I loved you like a slave

Show me the place
Show me the place
Show me the place

Show me the place, help me roll away the stone
Show me the place, I can’t move this thing alone
Show me the place where the word became a man
Show me the place where the suffering began

    @ Judy Snyder

The song makes no referance to alzimers.
In fact the verses are about a spirtual walk.
him being a slave to go where the word became man Word is god becoming man where his sufferings began as he died and they rolled a stone in front of his tomb.

many of his songs had religous undertones

  • I love sunshine says:

I just can’t believe that I’m listening to an artist my mom used to listen to. And I just love Leonard Cohen’s songs. I guess good music never goes out of fashion. His lyrics are just so deep.

@ Judy Snyder do you really think it’s Alzheimers? Man, that’s really nasty. But if i listen to the lyrics again, I think you might have a point…

  • old Brad says:

you still got it Leonard.keep it up, you’ll always be in our hearts

  • Judy Snyder says:

Hello, “Show Me The Place” has very haunting lyrics. After listening several times, I concluded that Leonard may be referring to someone who is beginning to realize that he is in the early stages of Alzheimers Disease.

  • Brian says:

Sorry, I mistakenly said “shred” instead of “thread”

  • Brian says:

Charlie, you almost got it right. It should read
A shred of light, a particle, a way
    Everything else is right.

  • Alan says:

Unless I hear wrong, I think it’s: “A thread of light, a particle, a wave” rather than “A shred of light, a particle away”.

  • Ray says:

    “world became a man”

    no, it is
    “word became a man”.

  • Charlie Bing says:

The troubles came I saved what I could save
A shred of light, a particle away
But there were chains so I hastened to the hay
There were chains so I loved you like a slave

    Close but no cigar…

The troubles came I saved what I could save
A shred of light, a particle, a wave.
But there were chains so I hastened to behave.
There were chains so I loved you like a slave
