4minute Biography

4minute is a girl group from Seoul, South Korea, founded by cube entertainment in 2009. The group consists of leader Ji Hyun , Ga Yoon , Ji Yoon , Hyuna and So Hyun.

4minute was announced in May 2009 along with two of the group’s members Nam Jihyun and Kim Hyuna, former member of Wonder Girls. On June 11, 2009, the silhouette teaser video was released online along with their official website. The remaining three members identities were kept a secret until the following day. On June 15, 2009, their debut single “Hot Issue” was released along with another teaser video and the profiles for each group member. Within hours of the song release, it quickly climbed onto top five within various digital music charts such as Cyworld, Bugs, Soribada, and Mnet. 4minute debuted on June 18 at M! Countdown. They also won the digital music award “Rookie of the Month”.

At the end of August, 4minute’s first mini-album, “For Muzik”, was released with “Muzik” as the lead single. 4minute won their first number one award on September 27th at Inkigayo and received their second award on October 1st at M!Countdown. “What a Girl Wants” was their last promo song for the album.

4minute went on their tour of Asia that began January and went to countries such as Taiwan, Philippines, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Japan. On May 5th, they released their first Japanese single “Muzik” which was a Japanese remake of their Korean song. The single also included “Hot Issue” but in Korean along with instrumentals for both tracks.

On May 19th, 4minute’s second mini album, “Hit Your Heart” was released with “HUH” being the album’s title track. It immediately went to #1 on such charts as Bugs and Gom TV.

Their following single was “I My Me Mine”, which also served as the second Japanese single.
On October 21, 2010, 4minute released their third Japanese single First/Dreams Come True. Later that year, December 15, they released their first full length Japanese album DIAMOND.

On January 19, 2011 was revealed that 4minute will be releasing their fourth Japanese single, “WHY” on March 9 and that is the theme song to TV Asahi drama, “Akutou~Juuhanzai Sousahan”. The MV teaser for “WHY” was released on January 21, 2011 and the music video was released on February 7, 2011.

On January 12, 2011 Cube Entertainment initially revealed that 4minute will be returning with a full official album in March. Several teasers were released featuring a “Steal 20” concept. It was later revealed that they would release a mini-album, titled Heart to Heart featuring 5 songs. The MV teaser for “Heart to Heart” was released on March 28, 2011 and the music video was released on March 29, 2011. The MV also stars C.N.Blue’s Jungshin. 4Minute made their first comeback stage through KBS’s Music Bank on April 8, 2011.

On April 5, they released their first full length Korean album titled 4Minutes Left. This was confirmed after an alternate version of the Heart to Heart intro track “4minutes Left”, featuring a much heavier dance beat, leaked. The album consists of all the tracks the Heart to Heart digital EP, some of the tracks from their debut album in Japan, DIAMOND, as well as the new single English: Mirror Mirror. They won their first award for Mirror Mirror at M!Countdown on April, 21.
